.
asks: Evgeny Astankov.
Essence of the question: Renault Duster or Skoda Yeti for a huckster from the private sector without roads, what to choose?

Hello, I am interested in the following question: I want to choose a car for myself, after studying and reviewing cars of different makes and models, I settled on the Skoda Yeti and Renault Duster. In connection with work (I am a private entrepreneur), I have to travel between several nearby cities. But, the fact is that the road between them is not of the best quality, in some places there are holes 50-70 centimeters deep, so sometimes you have to go along a country road.

That is why, I decided to choose an SUV, but I can not decide which one. I ask you to give me good advice. Yes, by the way, sometimes you have to transport oversized goods, ?

Both of these cars stand out for their unusual appearance, and therefore it will be interesting to compare them. Cars are made in the body of an SUV. Also, both of these machines during their existence have proven themselves among users from the best side.

The following two tabs change content below.

I own a Renault Megan 2 car, before that there were Citroens and Peugeots. I work in the service area of the dealership, so I know the device of the car "from and to". You can always turn to me for advice.

Design decision

Yeti differs from the Duster in its angular forms in the back, as well as a calm front. The line of glazing is even and large. At the same time, Skoda is 10 centimeters longer than Renault and already 30 millimeters. . The Duster has large wheels and a wide wheelbase. Landing in the car is high, but getting into the Yeti is much easier.

Salon

Salon Skoda Yeti

Inside, the Yeti looks calmer, but the Duster still has original trim elements. The material on the seats in Renault is better and more pleasant to the touch, but the Yeti's interior is more solidly equipped. Both cars have minimal gaps between decorative plastic panels. In the cabin, nothing rattles and does not hold together.

Yeti also comes out ahead in the number of different compartments for storing small items. Sitting in the back row is also more comfortable. The central seat can be dismantled if necessary, and the backrests can be adjusted according to the angle of inclination.

The Duster has ample legroom for rear passengers. In the Yeti, the tunnel in the center of the cabin and the air duct make it difficult to sit comfortably behind.

Trunk

The trunk volume of these cars is sufficient, but in the Yeti it is a little smaller and looks more beautiful, and is also made at a high level. You can increase the volume by folding the rear row of seats.

These cars are not randomly selected for comparison. Both vehicles are distinguished by a non-standard design solution. Over the years of its existence, these cars have gained considerable popularity among motorists in this price segment. This is due to high reliability and good driving performance. Therefore, the question "Skoda Yeti or what's better?" quite relevant.

Pros of Skoda Yeti and Renault Duster

Understanding the main advantages of each car will help you make the right choice: Renault Duster or Skoda Yeti. The table below will help you understand this, which discusses the key advantages of each car:

Skoda Yeti

  • In the new body, noise insulation has been significantly improved
  • good torque
  • Relatively low fuel consumption
  • Suspension energy intensity
  • Affordable Service
  • Design and interior trim is made in accordance with European quality standards
  • Thoughtful and comfortable interior

Renault Duster

  • Powerful engine suitable for any driving style
  • Auxiliary chip tuning that has a positive effect on torque
  • High design reliability
  • Spacious interior and high-quality isolation of third-party noise
  • Softness of movement with high traffic
  • Easily feel the dimensions of the transport
  • Large selection of kits

Interior of Skoda Yeti and Renault Duster

The interior of the Skoda Yeti is more conservative compared to the French competitor. Duster manufacturers can impress consumers with original trim elements that fit well with the overall style of the car. Also, Renault is distinguished by a better material for finishing the seats.

It is worth noting the gaps between the panels in the cabin. Both cars are small.

Among the advantages of the Yeti's interior, there are many additional compartments for storing the necessary small items. The advantage is also the ability to adjust the chairs in the angle of inclination.

Duster will pleasantly surprise with the comfort of the rear passengers due to the sufficient legroom.

Plastic Duster vs German Skoda interior

Salon Skoda Yeti is at a high level thanks to the classic style of German cars. The leather seats are firm but very comfortable. Summing up regarding the interior trim, it is worth paying attention that in the Yeti in the back row, passengers will be prevented from conveniently located by an air duct and a tunnel.

The Renault Duster car is wider, which allows you to comfortably spend a long trip. And the quality of finishes is on a higher level.

Trunk of Skoda Yeti and Renault Duster

If we compare the volume of the luggage compartment, then the Duster has an undoubted advantage - 475 liters, while the Yeti can only please the owner with a volume of 322 liters. It is important to note that the Yeti's trunk is quite narrow. These volume indicators were achieved thanks to the high roof.

Supporters of the Czech should not be confused by this figure. If desired, the trunk is compensated by boxing.

It is also worth noting that with the rear seats folded down, the Yeti's trunk volume is 1665 liters, and the Duster's is 1660.

Design decision

When there is a choice between Skoda Yeti and Renault Duster cars, the appearance of transport plays an important role. Both belong to the SUV category, but they have fundamental differences:

  1. Bumper
  2. clearance height
  3. Radiator grille
  4. Visual volume of the body

It is difficult to judge which of these cars has a better design. It depends on individual preferences.

Body and dimensions

A comparison of Renault Duster and Skoda Yeti would not be complete without an overview of the bodies. The body of both vehicles is galvanized. The thickness of the paint layer is also almost the same - 110-120 microns. However, Škoda offers customers a 12-year warranty for the repair of possible rust through.

It is worth noting the low threshold of the Czech car. When entering and leaving the transport, the legs do not get dirty, as is often the case with the French counterpart. Renault compensates for this shortcoming with a high ground clearance of 21 cm, which favorably affects the arrival angle of 36 degrees. The clearance of the Yeti is 18 cm, and the angle of arrival is up to 26 degrees.

In terms of dimensions, Renault Duster is significantly superior to the Czech counterpart.

Specifications

To compare this indicator, cars of 2017 with an engine capacity of 1.6 liters were selected. Skoda is based on front-wheel drive, while Duster provides a choice between front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive.

The power of both vehicles is about the same: 114 for the Duster and 110 for the Yeti. However, despite this, skoda yeti crossovers lose in acceleration dynamics. It takes 11.8 seconds to reach 100 km/h, which is 0.9 more than the French competitor.

Renault duster and skoda yeti cars also differ in fuel tank capacity: Renault - 50, Skoda - 55 with manual transmission and 60 liters with robotic gearbox.

Skoda Yeti and Renault Duster engine

The Skoda Yeti car can please the owner with an engine capacity of 1798 cubic meters. See French competitor has a whole line of engines.

According to the numerous reviews of the owners on the network, it can be concluded that the Skoda engine is somewhat more reliable than the French counterpart.

Steering and suspension

Suspension and steering systems for these cars are almost the same. All configurations of these cars have an electronic power steering.

The suspension of the Czech car is completely independent, while the front-wheel drive of the French competitor has a rear suspension in the form of a semi-independent frame.

Transmission and chassis

Yeti and Duster cars have both manual and automatic transmissions, depending on the chosen configuration. The transmission and chassis in these cars have practically no fundamental differences. However, it is worth noting that one hundred automatic transmission on Czech cars is newer than on the French.

Renault engineers compensated for this shortcoming with a lower gear, which a Czech car cannot boast of. Its presence is a definite advantage, especially when it comes to an SUV.

Cars are equipped with front and all-wheel drive, depending on the configuration. Rear-wheel drive can be connected by means of an electromagnetic clutch.

Complete set

In terms of the variety of configurations, the French representative is significantly ahead of his opponent.

Reflections on that often confuse the domestic consumer. First you need to decide on the class of the machine and the scope of its operation. This question does not cause much difficulty, based on the fact that the class of the car often depends on its cost. Some people can afford to buy a classic SUV by spending a significant amount of money, while others buy a budget car with “grief in half”. Today . We will analyze which car is better than Renault Duster or Skoda Yeti, because they are very similar to each other.

For the first time in its history, a Czech car manufacturing company released, which turned out to be quite good, and after several years of adaptation on the market, it began to compete with the leading car models presented in this “weight category”. This is not strange, since Bigfoot borrowed many components and assemblies from his “donor” Volkswagen. The French decided to hit the "sore spot" of all manufacturers "", namely the price. The price at which they offer their compact SUV is somewhat lower than the prices for cars of this "rank". The question immediately arises that something is wrong with the car, and therefore its value is slightly underestimated. We will try to deal with this issue by comparing the Czech and French crossover.

The unusual appearance of the "Czech" did not affect its popularity

"Czech" is not very attractive. He could be a cartoon character. Here, the view of the exterior design of the Czech designers was purely subjective, although they were guided by the fact that this model will not be like all the others, and therefore will be a particular success with consumers. The fact is that it is difficult to confuse Bigfoot with some other crossover. It has a unique appearance, which makes it mysterious. You can recognize it very easily by looking at the “muzzle”, where the classic Skoda grille is located. Which car looks better Yeti or Duster? "Czech" is unique in appearance, but did it benefit him? Some motorists like it, others repel it. The aesthetic tastes of all people are different, and it is impossible to argue that the appearance of Skoda is bad or good. The exterior of Renault Duster is difficult to call expressive. In appearance, he resembles his "classmates". Simple and memorable taillight shades, between which is a chrome trim with the inscription "Duster", will help to distinguish this car from similar ones.

"Plastic" Duster against the "German" Skoda interior

If we look at the driver's seat of Bigfoot, we immediately see that even the seat is profiled in the German style. It deserves special attention, since you will not find such a driver's seat in almost any SUV. Comfortable, tough and at the same time the driver and front passenger. Convenience gives excellent lateral support. In Renault Duster, the seats not only have a short cushion, but are also adjustable only in terms of the angle of the backrest and in the longitudinal direction. The steering wheel is not adjustable for reach, only for tilt, but with a very good range.

The lack of matching adjustment and the driver's seat cushion compensates for a fairly good back profile, which has massive side pickups. Power window buttons were brought to the driver's and passenger's front side doors. Finishing materials in Renault Duster do not differ in special quality either, which explains the relatively low cost of the “SUV” in the domestic automobile market. It is worth noting that the interior of the Duster is almost identical to the interior of the Renault Sandero. The front panel is almost entirely plastic, but looks much more expensive. You need to pay attention to a huge number of useful devices in a Czech car, such as cup holders in the doors and armrest. There will be passengers on the back sofa of the seat, because there is plenty of room for both legs and head. In the duel Skoda Yeti vs Renault Duster regarding interior design and comfort, we assign the victory to the Czech car.

Superb handling "Bigfoot"

There is no need to talk much about the driving characteristics of the “Czech”, it copes well with turns of any complexity. On the road, it performs great. is at a satisfactory level. In a word, a classic European crossover. The Renault Logan chassis was taken as the basis for the production of a new "SUV" from French production. The designers slightly increased the wheelbase. The front doors are identical. The handling of the Frenchman, who until recently was produced in Romania, is satisfactory. Considering the price for which it can be purchased, this is even excellent handling, despite all the complaints. In the duel Duster vs Yeti, it was not possible to determine a clear winner in terms of handling. There is parity here. Both crossovers are managed at a fairly high level.

Test drive of the car Skoda Yeti:

Test drive Renault Duster car:

"Czech" is assembled at a high level, but Renault Duster, given its price, is also assembled at a satisfactory level

Today we tried to compare Duster and Yeti. What came of it? The first thing I would like to mention once again is the French car. For the money offered, the car was assembled at a satisfactory level and does not cause any particular complaints. The Skoda Yeti has a high level of logistics, ergonomics, design and technical equipment. Which car to choose Duster or Skoda Yeti? but it's up to the buyer to decide.

In recent years, one can observe the activation of European companies in terms of the production of crossovers. Today we will compare the Skoda Yeti and Renault Duster - cars that were released relatively recently and have already won a lot of fans around the world.

Renault Duster, developed at the Renault Technocenter in Guiancourt, debuted in December 2009. Interestingly, the name of the model literally translates as "duster", and this is nothing more than a tricky move by marketers. The car is built on the basis of the B0 module, which was also used in the development of the Nissan Beetle. It is worth noting that the Duster is in incredibly high demand in the global market, and by 2014 the company had produced about 1,000,000 crossover units.

In the fall of 2013, the model was restyled, which affected both the exterior and technical characteristics. For the domestic market, cars are assembled at the Moscow Avtoframos plant. In 2013, a budget version of the crossover was also released, called the Nissan Terrano.

Yeti can be called the same age as today's counterpart, since the car was also first introduced in 2009. Despite all sorts of disappointing predictions, the crossover was warmly received by the public, and it was even recognized as the best family car of 2010. The model was in great demand, and already in 2015 the company reached the mark of 500,000 cars produced.

Skoda Yeti is built on the basis of the well-known A5 platform, which is the property of the German concern Volkswagen. In 2013, the first major restyling of the model took place. The debut of the second-generation Yeti is expected no earlier than the fall of 2017.

Since the career paths of both crossovers are very similar, we will award a draw at this point.

Appearance

Externally, Renault Duster and Yeti are very difficult to compare, as it immediately becomes clear that completely different design concepts are used in their exterior. Skoda Yeti, in appearance, is a really neat, practical, family crossover, with a somewhat unusual appearance. But Duster is such a “small” SUV, in the exterior of which aggressiveness and dynamism are visible.

If you choose what is better in terms of appearance, then the answer depends on the purpose of using the car. For example, the Yeti is a great option for the role of an urban family car, and the Duster is a good car for outdoor activities.

Salon

Comparing the interior of both crossovers, one can notice the sophistication and pathos inherent in European models. Purely visually, the interior of the French car looks more attractive, and the main role in this is played by the dashboard, which Duster has is both more technologically advanced and more informative. Also, as many experts note, the Duster has a more successful layout of all interior elements, which makes the trip for the driver and passengers very comfortable.

Also, the Duster is more spacious than its counterpart, but the Yeti, in turn, boasts a better finish.

Given all of the above, I would like to give preference to the French crossover.

Specifications

For comparison, we took cars with a volume of 1.6, manufactured in 2017. Yeti is based on front-wheel drive, buying a Duster, you can choose: front or full.

The power of both cars is almost the same: 114 horsepower for the "Frenchman" and 110 for the "Czech". Acceleration dynamics is better with Duster. So, to reach the mark of 100 km / h from the Yeti's place, you need to spend 11.8 seconds, which is 0.9 seconds more than the French car. However, Skoda boasts higher efficiency, because, against 7.4 liters, the counterpart.

The fuel tank capacity of the Duster is 50 liters. In Yeti, this figure is 55 liters for the “mechanics” and 60 liters for the “robot”. The size of the luggage compartment for a Renault representative is 475 liters (1636 liters with the rear seats folded down), for a Skoda representative this parameter is 322 liters (1484 liters).

As a transmission, the Duster uses 5 and 6-speed "mechanics", while the Yeti has a 5-speed "mechanics" and a 6-speed robotic box.

Interestingly, the body of the Duster is 93 mm longer than the Yeti, but at the same time lower by 66 mm. The wheelbase, again, is 95 mm longer for the Duster. The same can be said about the clearance height - 205 mm (210 for 4x4), against 180 for the opponent.

Price

To date, the average cost of Renault Duster 2017 in the domestic market is about 650,000 rubles. You will have to pay approximately 1,100,000 rubles for it. A logical question arises: “Why overpay for a brand if many cars are very similar?”. Therefore, Duster wins here.

The position of Renault Duster on the Russian market cannot be called anything other than privileged: there are practically no direct competitors. Yes, the Chevy Niva and the related Nissan Terrano are on sale, but the Duster still remains the most popular crossover in Russia - the ratio of price and functionality is too unprecedented. In the absence of direct rivals, we decided to compare it with indirect competitors - B-class crossovers.

Prices

In terms of price, the Duster intersects with the Skoda Yeti and Suzuki Vitara in a narrow range: the Duster in the maximum “minced meat” costs like the simplest versions of competitors. For the amount of about 1 million rubles, Yeti and Vitara have a basic set of benefits (ABS, pillows, air conditioning), and Duster - leather interior, foglights, heated windshield, parking sensors, navigation, rear view camera and a number of other excesses. At the same time, if non-budget crossovers for 1 million are equipped only with mechanical transmissions and 1.6 engines, then Duster gets a 2-liter engine and an “automatic”. And most importantly - all-wheel drive.

By the way, the Japanese model wins from Yeti and Vitara in terms of price and equipment. So, for 1.039 million rubles, Vitara is equipped with an audio system, 7 airbags and a stabilization system. Yeti for 1.031 million rubles from this list has only two frontal pillows, and you need to pay extra for the rest. At the same time, Suzuki, the only one of the trinity, is not assembled in Russia.

And other things being equal, it’s scary to say that Duster is cheaper than its rivals by as much as one and a half times. Clear victory? Do not rush to conclusions.

Dynamics

For example, a two-liter Duster engine (143 hp) does not give it a decisive advantage in terms of dynamics, and if in terms of numbers it is still somehow faster than its competitors, then subjectively it is not. Due to the old (and very problematic in the past) four-speed "automatic" at each intensive acceleration, an anguish appears in the character of the car, as if accelerations are given through force, and the pace itself is not amazing.

Skoda Yeti with a 1.6-liter (110 hp) Russian-built engine and a six-speed automatic also does not seem too militant due to a damped gas pedal, but Duster does not lag behind when overtaking. And Suzuki Vitara completely pleased with the “live” engine (117 hp) and the good adaptability of the six-speed “automatic”: the most nimble and predictable accelerations.

So the advantage in engine displacement is not a decisive advantage of the Duster, especially since the "reno" engine is much more voracious. But the presence of all-wheel drive and the bulletproof chassis of the Duster is a much more serious argument. He also has the longest suspension suspension and the largest clearance, so in terms of cross-country ability, he dominates the competition. Duster is also good on dead roads, allowing you to storm areas where other cars slow down in fear for the safety of the suspension.

Interior

The charms of the Duster are called into question when you take a critical look at its interior. Yes, the equipment is the richest, but the design is the most ascetic, and besides, it is not without oddities typical of Renault. The air conditioning control unit “turns up its nose” from the driver, the “machine” selector covers the lower part of the console, the armrest conflicts with the handbrake, you look for the seat heating button by touch, and the seat is the most uncomfortable. And most importantly, the spirit of the car that was saved on is hovering in the Duster cabin.

In fact, everything is not so critical. Firstly, during the evolution of Duster (and its donor Logan) got rid of a lot of oddities, for example, power windows are controlled by buttons on the door, and the “horn” button is on the steering wheel, not the steering column switch. Secondly, you get used to the features of Duster pretty quickly.

And yet, changing into Yeti, you feel the contrast, as if instead of a no name tablet, you picked up an iPad. For example, in Duster it is impossible to put the back of the chair vertically enough, and the seat profile itself is amorphous, but in Skoda you sit down like a glove - chick, and you are in her reliable embrace. In every detail, whether it's the quality of the plastic or the feel of the buttons, Yeti demonstrates the attention to detail for which many people love Volkswagen products. Of the three models, Yeti is the oldest, but its interior looks the most relevant.

Suzuki Vitara does not strike or repel anything - the interior is restrained and moderately comfortable. True, the primacy of quality over the price is not felt here, the plastic is noisy, the instruments are unpretentious, and the seats are not as comfortable as in Skoda (but much better than in Duster).

Ride comfort and handling

Duster at the other end of the scale, on the contrary, suffers from excessive vibrational backgrounds, which sometimes give the impression of a shell bed: if it moves a little, it itches. But the worse the road, the more unambiguous the Duster becomes, and in terms of the ability to hide the real deadness of the asphalt, it has no equal.

Suzuki Vitara is somewhere in between, but still closer to the Duster. The suspension is softened, but also prone to pitting and shaking at random. But at the same time, the car is perceived as quite solid and not flimsy, although in general it is inferior to Yeti in terms of driving comfort.

Yeti has better handling. It has the “cleanest” and most accurate steering wheel, and cornering behavior is not devoid of liveliness, which is rather characteristic of B-class hatches. If the demon of aggressive cornering has not yet died out in you, there are no alternatives to the Yeti from this trinity.

That Duster and Vitara are also quite understandable and predictable, even if you try to drive with a twinkle. And yet, in the characters of both cars there is some detachment and rubberiness that Skoda engineers managed to get rid of.

Practicality

The Vitara is the most compact car of the three, but it has a good amount of luggage space, and there is a convenient niche for small things under the floor. The seats can be folded, although the floor is obtained with a “step”. Duster is both the largest trunk, and a full-size spare wheel under the floor (the rest have dokatki), and also the ability to fold the second row into a perfectly flat floor, folding the rear seat cushions.

Yeti cannot boast of a trunk volume, but it flaunts the best compartment finish, a lot of pleasant little things (side niches, places for securing cargo, a flashlight), as well as ample opportunities for transforming the interior. For example, you can fold the rear seat backs into a flat floor, or you can remove the third row altogether.

All three cars are cramped in the second row. Duster provides a little more space, but the pose is the most unnatural. Subjectively, it's best to be in the Skoda Yeti, with its generous armrest and good trim, although the posture is fairly upright and can be tiring on long journeys.

Summary

Duster has been and remains the best crossover in terms of price, equipment and cross-country ability, therefore, for fishermen, villagers and just active users of the car “in tail and mane” it remains almost no alternative to the B-class SUV.

However, for city dwellers who are not alien to some sybaritism, love the driving process and expect something more from the car than bare functionality, Duster will seem ascetic. And from the inside it is felt much stronger than from the outside.

Skoda Yeti has once again proved that, despite its age, it is ready to give battle to new SUVs. Yeti is thoughtful in detail and a well-trained chassis. Its problems are a specific design (not everyone likes it) and the highest price. At the same time, Skoda is showing a certain stinginess, for example, many options included in the competitor base are available for Yeti only for a surcharge. And all-wheel drive versions do come only with a 1.8 TSI engine and a robotic gearbox with a price of 1.346 million rubles.

Suzuki Vitara liked the good basic equipment, the freshest design and the brisk power unit (besides, the most economical one). However, the bright merits that Suzuki spoiled us with in such models as the Grand Vitara or Jimny, the Vitara does not have - it is a car more mainstream and narrow-minded. Maybe he lacks some bright feature that would allow us at the end of this test drive to clearly justify why Vitara is one of these cars to choose. And so ... Well, unless you just love Suzuki very much.
