In January 2008, on the catwalks of the Detroit Auto Show, Honda unveiled the second-generation full-size Pilot crossover (model year 2009), which made it to dealerships in the summer.

At the end of 2011, the Japanese "rogue" went through a planned update, as a result of which it received slight differences from the pre-reform model. In particular, the car was separated by a redesigned front end with a different radiator grille and modified optics, and the taillights were endowed with slightly different graphics.

In addition, the novelty is distinguished by new design wheels and turn signals registered in the external mirrors. Spot changes also affected the interior: a "strict" center console (now it is dark) and a large color display in the top-end version. And finally, the restyled Honda Pilot has become "as much as" 5 mm longer than its predecessor, and the engine has got a cylinder shutdown system.

Before the 2011 update, the 2nd generation Pilot crossover looked like this:

The 2nd generation has a brutal and masculine appearance that is created through simple geometric shapes and muscular proportions. The front of the crossover is crowned with large rectangular optics and a large chrome grille with three crossbars, in the center of which is the brand's emblem. A front bumper with a two-level air intake and round PTFs completes the composition.
But not without controversial decisions - the headlights are completely halogen, and even for a surcharge on a car worth more than 2 million rubles, neither LEDs nor xenon are available.

The "rogue" profile looks solid, and it is emphasized by an abundance of straight lines: a flat roof, almost square windows and large doorways. The most noticeable element is the wide wheel arches that can accommodate 17-inch discs. The Pilot's stern boasts a rectangular tailgate, compact lanterns and a neat bumper with two exhaust pipes (arranged symmetrically).

The solid appearance of the Honda Pilot is supported by the impressive body dimensions: 4875 mm in length, 1845 mm in height and 1995 mm in width. The wheelbase of the Japanese crossover is 2775 mm, and the ground clearance is 200 mm. The car is quite heavy - its curb weight exceeds 2 tons, and the full weight even reaches 2765 kg.

As if the interior space of the second generation Honda Pilot "cut with an ax" is in harmony with the external appearance. The devices are informative and non-trivial, and the readings from them are perfectly readable regardless of the conditions. The large multifunction steering wheel is clad in leather and has a comfortable shape that fits well into the overall concept of the interior.

The dashboard and center console are all decorated in the same simple style and the same straight lines that are dictated by the Pilot's exterior. The front panel is endowed with chopped shapes, and contains an automatic transmission selector, control units for "music" and three-zone climate control, as well as a monochrome display at the very top (in the top version, its place is reserved for an 8-inch color screen of the multimedia complex).

The 2nd generation Honda Pilot crossover is a versatile vehicle, as evidenced by the eight-seat interior layout. Comfortable front seats do not stand out in appearance, but they fit the body nicely and have a moderately long pillow. The adjustment ranges are large, making it easy to find the optimal position.
The middle row of seats offers an unprecedented amount of space for three adults in all directions. At the service of riders - an absolutely flat floor, a separate "climate" control unit, six cup holders, as well as adjustment of the sofa in the longitudinal position and in the angle of inclination of the back. "Gallery" is designed for three people, but they cannot sit there for a long time, and access to the third row is not the most convenient.

With eight passengers on board, the luggage compartment of the Honda Pilot does not exceed 510 liters, but the correct shape ensures smooth use. The second and third rows of seats are flush with the floor, so the usable space can be increased to 1680 liters (five seats remain) or even 2464 liters. This results in a perfectly straight cargo area and a wide opening. It is worth noting that the full-size "spare wheel" is hidden under the bottom. The luggage door is equipped with an electric drive, but if you need to quickly load a bulky cargo, you can open only the rear window.

Specifications. The second generation Honda Pilot is equipped with only one engine - a 3.5-liter naturally aspirated "six" i-VTEC with a V-shaped arrangement of cylinders (factory designation J35Z4). Engine power is 249 horsepower, and at 4800 rpm, a maximum torque of 347 Nm is generated. The unit is equipped with a VCM partial cylinder shutdown system, which allows it to operate only three out of six cylinders at low loads.
The engine is assigned a 5-speed automatic and a VTM-4 all-wheel drive system, which jointly accelerate the heavy crossover to the first hundred in 9.9 seconds (the top speed is fixed at around 180 km / h). For such readings, you have to pay with a decent fuel consumption - 11.6 liters of gasoline for every 100 km of track in mixed mode (15.8 liters in the city, 9.1 liters on the highway).

The Japanese "rogue" is not designed to conquer serious off-road conditions, but it is worth mentioning the capabilities of the VTM-4 all-wheel drive transmission. Under normal conditions, up to 90% of the traction goes to the front wheels, but in the event of a quick start or slipping (a bunch of sensors monitor this), the necessary part of the moment goes to the rear axle. At speeds up to 30 km / h, the clutch can be completely locked, resulting in a torque distribution of 30:70.

The "second" Honda Pilot is built on the "cart" of the Acura MDX model. The suspension features classic McPherson struts at the front and an intricate multi-link arrangement at the rear. Other specifications are: power steering, ventilated disc brakes, ABS and EBD on all wheels.

Options and prices. In 2015, the 2nd generation Honda Pilot on the Russian market can be purchased in three trim levels: Elegance, Executive and Executive Navi. A car in the basic version will cost 2,379,000 rubles, and it is equipped with a three-zone climate control system, ten airbags, a standard audio system, full power accessories, cruise control, a set of security systems, heated front and rear seats and a start-up assistance system ...
For a crossover in the Executive version, they ask for 2 649 000 rubles, and its distinctive features are the presence of leather trim, electric front seat adjustments, a rear-view camera, front and rear parking sensors, as well as roof rails.
The top-of-the-line Pilot Executive Navi is offered in 2015 at a price of 2,739,000 rubles, and its prerogative is a multimedia system with an 8-inch color display and navigation and an audio system with 9 speakers (in other versions there are six of them).

A large crossover Honda Pilot for the American market appeared in 2002, and in April 2008, the manufacturer presented the second generation car. Compared to its predecessor, the new Honda Pilot 2 has grown in size and began to look more massive due to a completely different exterior design, made in a more brutal angular style.

Three years later, the SUV underwent a planned restyling, the updated version of the Honda Pilot II has a new radiator grill, and the front bumper and head optics have also changed. In addition, the novelty can be distinguished from the pre-reform car by other 18-inch wheels and turn signals registered in the rear-view mirrors.

AT5 - automatic 5-speed, AWD - four-wheel drive

There are slightly more changes in the interior of the new Honda Pilot 2. The crossover has received a seriously revised center console with a different architecture, new dashboard graphics and revised trim materials. In addition, the company notes that the model has significantly improved the level of sound insulation.

As for the technology, everything remained unchanged there. The car is driven by a 3.5-liter petrol "six" with a capacity of 250 hp. (343 Nm), coupled with a five-speed automatic transmission. To accelerate from zero to hundreds of Honda Pilot 2 spends 9.9 seconds, and the maximum speed reaches 180 km / h.

Average fuel consumption in the combined cycle is declared at 11.8 liters per hundred (in the city - 16.3 liters, and on the highway - 9.2). On the US market, the car is offered in four different trim levels, and prices for its base version start at $ 28,470.

Sales of the new Honda Pilot 2 in Russia started at the end of 2011. Depending on the selected configuration, the price of the 2015 model year crossover varies from 2,379,000 to 2,739,000 rubles.

That Honda Pilot 2008 release has become a completely new model with its own unique external features and character. Since its predecessor, the second generation model was focused on the American market, which could not but affect its size and technical characteristics.

The Honda Pilot was able to carry seven passengers, not counting the driver. The car was also distinguished by its excellent ability to carry the most non-standard cargo with large dimensions thanks to the folding seats of the third and second rows. When folded, they formed a flat floor in the same plane with the luggage compartment.

The 2008 Honda Pilot has been engineered with the latest fuel economy systems, which is important for a 3.5-liter car. One of these systems is VCM, short for Variable Cylinder Management. She is responsible for controlling the operation of the cylinders at varying degrees of load. Depending on the complexity of the route and road conditions, 3, 4, or all 6 cylinders can be used. This allows you to significantly optimize the fuel consumption of the vehicle and reduce its consumption.

The second generation Honda Pilot has become much more serious than its predecessor from 2001-2007. When you look at this car, the impression of its owner is automatically formed. It goes without saying that only a person holding a certain position in society can sit behind the wheel of such an all-terrain vehicle. This is another significant difference from the Americans, for whom this car was originally designed. The result of these national characteristics is that the Honda Pilot carries a significant image load and indicates the status of its owner. Honda Pilot 2009–2010 is presented on the domestic market in two trim levels: Elegance and Executive. Both the first and second are equipped with an automatic five-speed gearbox and have a capacity of 249 horsepower. The car accelerates from zero to hundred in 9.9 seconds. And this is given the weight of the Honda Pilot is more than two tons. For other countries, the list of complete sets has been expanded to four options, but by and large, there are not so many differences between them. All the really necessary options and security systems were already in the database.

Initially, the 2nd generation Pilot is presented as a front-wheel drive car, but at the request of the client it can be equipped with an all-wheel drive system. It is capable of automatically transferring significant force to the rear axle when the front wheels slip.

The handling of the car is quite light, given its dimensions and weight. He easily enters the turns - you can not say that it does not roll at all, but it is quite worthy. The steering wheel is very responsive and instantly transfers the slightest effort to the wheels - the Honda Pilot instantly changes direction. At the same time, it perfectly keeps the given direction and does not require steering. The suspension handles small pits and bumps in the road very well.

The second generation of the Pilot turned out to be very worthy, but at the same time quite restrained, without unnecessary pathos. This is exactly what a real off-road vehicle should be.

NEW HONDA PILOT combines the latest developments and trends in the automotive industry.

This is the 3rd generation Honda Pilot 2017, its main feature is its revolutionary design. It combines excellent aerodynamic performance with elegant body lines. A lot of functional details have been added to the exterior. Large ground clearance, powerful motor - all this allows you to cope with off-road without any problems.

Fuel efficiency

The previous model in the city “ate” 15.8 liters of fuel, but now its “appetite” decreased by one and a half liters at once! You can refuel the Pilot with 92-m gasoline.
Outside the city, "gluttony" is even less - 8.2 liters. The combined cycle assumes a consumption of 10.4 liters. If the 2nd version of this model accelerated to "hundreds" in almost 10 seconds, then the 3rd one needs a little more than nine.

Transmission

The new model received an automatic transmission with 6 steps, a torque converter and electronic control. Thanks to this, smooth switching occurs, excellent dynamics can be achieved.
For Russian buyers, the 8-seater Honda Pilot will receive an intelligent all-wheel drive system. Buyers will be able to choose between different driving modes, such as standard or sand driving. Thanks to this technology, the driver will be as confident as possible on any road.
