The car was bought in the Audi showroom, or rather in the trade-in department with a mileage of just under 50 thousand km. The car stayed in my garage for 4 years, the mileage during this time amounted to a little less than 100 thousand km. Audi served faithfully to my wife, was regularly used by me as a traveling car for work, often with a decent load. It happened to transport bulky cargo in the cabin, unnecessarily load various household utensils, etc., i.e. the role of a traveling car fell to her share.

All the best that can be said about the car, I will not list, because. there are many times more general positive than controversial points, I will only note that the “four” was for us true friend, loyal to the last minute, never demanding the attention of a tow truck or anything like that. You quickly get used to the car, sometimes it seems that the excellent ergonomics of the cabin, in the traditional Audi design and the real German “suit” of the car, as well as the superlative quality of every detail from the interior to the lock nut, is already the norm for the modern car industry and other cars are simply no longer assembled on assembly lines! Anyone who thinks so, having driven his A4 for a long time, is in for an unfortunate disappointment when choosing new models of other manufacturers similar in class as a replacement for Audi.

I’ll start my review with the chassis: when I bought it in the neighboring region and drove it to me, immediately after the Ford I felt mixed feelings about the chassis, it’s wrong to say that it’s tough, but moderately harsh compared to the Ford. The suspension swallows bumps well, it goes along the track like it’s on rails, but when there was a Ford, I thought that it was on rails, it turned out that the Ford is like a long-distance ship - it swings on bumps in moderation, Audi is definitely in comparison on rails - neither the wind nor the bumps of the body do not pull. Before that, he was the owner of two BMWs (he gets bored with small constant breakdowns), two Audis, a Mitsubishi Galant, a Mazda Three (it’s hard to call a car - an inadequate cart), a Ford Cougar (expensive hodovka, but excellent handling - for those who like to drive), Grand Cherokee (still since then I have been delighted with this car, owned it for about a year, did not let it down at all, given the venerable age of 12 years), nissan almera (lack of anti-roll bars and soundproofing spoiled my opinion) and murano (now also in the family - very happy with the car) , VAZ! I can say that there are no better cars than the Germans, maybe they are not very reliable, but comfort, handling, noise isolation and safety are at the highest level.

A little about my "quake"

At first, four-wheel drive was a little scary - there are rumors about expensive maintenance. In fact, there is nothing special to break down there ... everything is like all four-wheel drive. I just bought it and immediately went to the service, changed all the fluids, filters and sentenced the right lower arm (I don’t remember how much was spent, I think it’s a little). One morning, when starting up, I felt a vibration ... the engine was shaking at idle, as if a candle had failed. I connected the Vag-com, counted the errors, climbed into the Internet. It turned out that the crankcase valve was broken. The price of the issue is 500 rubles, it seems to be original.

This machine, 8E / B7, is already considered obsolete, next year the B8 body is already awaiting restyling, but, as it turned out in life, this is one of the best representatives of the D-class. And one of the best in terms of consumer characteristics from the Audi line. The body of the B8, which is now on sale, is NO LONGER (see Lurkmore :)), and I have no idea what to expect from engineers from Ingolstadt in 2012. Since from the general craving for improving the environment and the manic passion for reducing costs, we, consumers, get “paper” bodies for a lot of money, buggy Chinese electrics and “watercolor” paint, which wears out very quickly during normal operation of the car. Of course, this concerns European cars, in particular Germans, less than Japanese and Koreans :), however, there are facts of jambs, which does not add optimism.

Well, it's been 4 years and 102,000 miles. The car becomes dearer and more beloved))) Seriously, as the operation of this machine, I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who made it. The car is 100,000, and the chassis is like new. Without exaggeration. There are no crickets in the cabin, only occasionally appear when you drive onto the curb. For those who spread rumors about the glass suspension, I would like to say that apart from the upper right arm (3524r), nothing has been replaced. Moreover, AUDI admitted that at such and such a period they had problems with the aluminum supplier. But that is in the past.

In the last review, I wrote about the rack ... knocking on corners, etc. As it turned out later, the cause of the knock is the right lever. He regretted that he did not ask to write down this appeal in the history of the car (which the dealer maintains on his computer). It turned out about the lever after the guarantee, but by knocking it turned to the guarantee. I tried to explain it - it's useless. The wizard printed out the entire history, where this appeal was not registered. Damn, everything was written there, every little thing, except for this. Well, they replaced the lever — 3524r + 270r work. The knock is gone, everything is ok)))

I decided to post a small review about my typewriter, you see who will be useful. This is the 3rd Audi I drive. Of course, this is due to the fact that I am one hundred percent satisfied with the brand and model. I think that it makes no sense to retell about the quality of materials, about ergonomics - everything is fine here and even more.

Currently running 49 tkm. Of the breakdowns, which was only one, some kind of turbine bypass valve flew at 35 thousand km. It cost 2500 rubles. and replacement of about 600 steering wheels (authorized service prices, not official). There is a problem with the membrane, which wears out. As I understand it, almost a consumable for 2.0T engines.

It's been 2 years since the purchase. What can I say - the choice was right. Auto still continues to be fun. A significant role in this is played by impeccable ergonomics and German quality. Let the mileage be quite small, but in the cabin, in any weather and any roads, nothing creaks, does not strum, everything is in its place, everything turns on / off by itself, all that remains is to turn the steering wheel and press two pedals. The wheelbarrow is operated 350 days a year, 5 km to work, the regime turns out to be tougher than tens of thousands of sawing along the highway, and especially on our “good” roads.

In the cabin, only a pleasant overtone of the turbo engine. Again I will mention the multitronic - zer gut, this is the best transmission of all that was invented for civilian cars (PDK does not count - this is a sport). The climate control is super - as I set it to 22 degrees Auto at the beginning, I didn’t touch it anymore. The paintwork is durable, with my practical black color and frequent washes, it looks like new. Apparently, the paint is not water-based :) In the cold (we had a maximum of -30) it starts up with a “half-tip”. In the summer it was +42 in the shade, of course the dynamics are rotten — minus the turbo, although the aspirated die.

I did not reach the maximum speed, it was up to 215 times (the speedometer showed 220), the road ended. Up to 190 picking up briskly, then hard, as if behind a trailer. Throw firewood into the fire, or what? :) Bayan-tupes on the machine easily goes around, pliers with 1.8T, too, on the body. Normal dynamics, enough for the city, according to the measurements of 9.2-9.4 to a hundred. The warmer, the slower the acceleration. Do not believe the paper performance characteristics, in life everything is much different :) The main thing that I like about the four is the elasticity of the turbo engine, you stick “S” from 80 km / h and cheerfully shoot almost any overtaking.

Like any story, a review needs to start somewhere ... I'll start with my attitude to the Audi brand. Earlier, at the end of the last century, the cars of this company were nothing more than ordinary family sedans for me. That is, ordinary, boring, but reliable and unpretentious. There were other Europeans who occupied much higher places in the table of ranks. But everything is changing, just as my view of Avdotya has changed. I won’t say exactly what it is connected with, a little of everything, most likely with bright minds directing the company’s policy in the right direction. Here you have the design of a car, which is becoming more and more interesting, and victories in Le Mans, and a price tag that has caught up with the generally recognized leaders of the luxury class (it became interesting what they take money for). One way or another, but when it came time to change the wife’s car (Volvo S80), having shoveled a mountain of information, having estimated their finances, they settled on the A4 from the states in their usual (American) configuration: 2 liters with a turbine, 200 hp, quattro , leather and other small nishtyaki.

Acquisition. This is if anyone is interested in what nuances arise with the importation. It happened June-August 2008, the scene of St. Petersburg.

I have a friend who has contacts in the United States who are engaged in the selection, purchase and shipment of cars to Russia. If not for a friend, I would not have dared to take a car from there, because it's scary. I've heard a lot of negative stories. But they got in. And so far I have no regrets. To begin with, they made a list of their requirements for the car - body color, interior color, max. mileage, etc. etc. Threw money and began to wait. The wait was not long, it turned out that a similar car was already sailing to Russia. Of the shortcomings, only a few kotsok on the body. Not strong — scuffs mostly. But we were warned about them in advance in the form of a detailed photo report. Oddly enough, the process of customs clearance (customs clearance in our opinion) also went without incident. He came, made a deposit, brought the car, paid a little more :) and that's it. One day! And without extortion and queues! Everything is noble. Lucky? Don't know.

How many modifications are provided for the Audi A4! There are three models in the sports line alone: ​​RS4, S4 and A4 DTM Edition. The latter, although it is the most democratic in the top three in terms of technical content, outwardly is in no way inferior to its eight-cylinder fellow monsters.

At the heart of the car is a version with a 2-liter turbo engine equipped with FSI direct fuel injection. Initially, this is a very decent car with good dynamics and exceptionally correct handling. However, to wear the DTM badge, it is not enough just to be good. You have to be at least something special. Naturally, the accents in the reworking of the car were shifted towards sports. But comfort was not affected at all.

The blue color suits the sedan very well with spectacular 15-spoke wheels in the arches. The design is made in the style of DTM cars. Thanks to 18-inch wheels, the car looks sporty fit. However, there is also a new body kit, it is also made in the spirit of Audi championship cars. The spectacular front bumper is devoid of fog lights, but it has massive air intakes. The rear is also equipped with slots in the style of sports cars. The car received not too noticeable, but very nice carbon elements: a “lip” on the front bumper and an overlay on the trunk lid. In addition, the diameter of the exhaust system tips has been increased (100 mm) - the rear view turned out to be very serious. As a result, we can talk about a complete and stylish factory external tuning, which is difficult to improve by adding some more detail. Everything is in place - beautiful, neat and with the appropriate sporty mood, in the spirit of Audi.

Salon DTM Edition, as expected, is not at all puffy, but one hundred percent self-sufficient. The front panel is finished with carbon fiber trims. The comfortable three-spoke steering wheel is upholstered in a combination of leather and microfiber with the name Nardia, which looks and feels very similar to suede. By the way, the upholstery of the Recaro seats is made according to the same recipe, thanks to which they perfectly hold the riders - not only the profile works here, but also the frictional properties. The short-stroke lever of a mechanical 6-speed gearbox with the ball-handle covered with the same Nardia ball-handle fits in the hand like a native and is accurate in switching. The build quality of the cabin is excellent! The interior not only charges with a racing mood, but is simply cozy.

The engine has undergone quite a serious revision. The increase in "horses" and Newton meters is the same - plus 20. However, this was not achieved by simply increasing the boost pressure. New pistons appeared in the engine block, the old turbine and software went to rest. Therefore, if the owner of the car decides to start tuning the power unit, it can be assumed that he will have a good margin of safety at his disposal with an increase in power from what is already there.

Has the nature of the motor changed after the work done? The difference with the regular version is not cardinal, but it is there and you can feel it. Can the standard suspension handle the dynamic potential of the turbocharged A4? The answer is yes. Of course, I would like a little less roll and more composure, but we must remember that this is not an S, but only an S-line, and the tuning of the chassis involves mainly “domestic” use of the car.

Comfort, however, keeps pace with resilience. The suspension is energy-intensive and you can “break through” it only by trying. But at high speeds, the A4 famously throws up riders. True, this happens on really large differences in the road profile. In fairness, I note that the buildup does not occur. In general, not bad.

Turns - the element of quattro. And the A4 2.0T FSI even more so, with its desire to turn understeer into oversteer. It only looks non-aggressive and restrained, and in the settings of the chassis it is a provocateur! Try to enter the turn faster and release the gas a little by turning the steering wheel. The rear axle will immediately take over from the front axle, and the machine will begin to perform a smooth, well-controlled drift at any stage. At the limit, the car slides on all wheels, slightly throwing the stern, the skid is easily corrected by the steering wheel. The "smooth" motor allows you to drag the car in gas sliding with minimal effort. Clinging to the road with all wheels, the Audi shoots out of the turn like a bullet. Behavior trained, correct. Do not forget that at the heart of the quattro on the A4 is an old friend, the Torsen limited-slip differential, which intelligently distributes the moment along the axes.

On a suburban highway, a random sparring took place with an obviously more powerful opponent - the Impreza WRX STi. Often in such a situation, the decarbonization of the rings saves. A 2-liter atmospheric ALT, as a rule, does not throw up surprises. But the owner must be ready to refuel the engine not only with gasoline, but with oil. "Maslozhor" with a run of more than 120 - 150 thousand km is a common occurrence. The appetite of the engine will require about 3 - 4 liters per 10,000 km.

The 2.0 TDI turbodiesel will most likely please with its reliability. Nozzles rarely go more than 150 - 200 thousand km.

A leaking or failed thermostat may need to be replaced after 140-160 thousand km. Often the coolant tee behind the engine also leaks. The pump of the liquid cooling system of the engine runs about 160 - 180 thousand km. The fuel pump will last at least 160 - 200 thousand km.

Transmission

On the Audi A4 B7, you can find 5 and 6-speed manual gearboxes, a Multitronic CVT and a 6-speed Tiptronic “automatic” (only on all-wheel drive versions).

After 120 - 150 thousand km, Multitronic can throw problems due to the failure of the automatic transmission control unit. In this case, the box goes into emergency mode, and the PRNDS line flashes on the dashboard. As a rule, repairs cost 15-20 thousand rubles with little blood.

On the “automatic” ZF, engineers made a miscalculation in the compatibility of the working fluid and the algorithm of the box, which leads to its rapid wear. In search of a solution to the problem situation, the box ECU settings and the working fluids used were changed. The optimized ATF is green since March 2008, until then yellow was used first and then blue. Problems arose with a run of more than 80 - 120 thousand km - they were manifested by jolts during acceleration when shifting gears. The reason for the failure is the failure of the torque converter (“donut”). Chassis

The front suspension of the Audi A4 B7 is four-link, the rear is on trapezoidal levers. With a run of more than 160 - 200 thousand km, the steering rack often begins to leak. Its repair will cost 12 - 15 thousand rubles.

Body and interior

Problems with the central lock are more often caused by oxidation of the contacts on the driver's door lock control unit or a broken wire in the corrugation connecting the body to the door. Over time, the electronic control unit for comfort systems may also turn on, in which case there will be problems with controlling the central lock, mirrors, interior lighting, power windows, mirror heating or the fuel filler flap. Parking sensors begin to give up at a run of more than 140 - 160 thousand km. On the keys of certain models from cars of the first years of production, there were problems with Audi's response to pressing the buttons on the key fob. In this case, you will have to replace the key with a new one, which will cost 8-9 thousand rubles for the original and 3-4 thousand rubles for an analogue from China.

Over time, the outer lining on the door handles begins to clang, and the wiper drive mechanism turns sour.

One of the many standard projects for tuning the 1.8T engine. Here I will show on the example of a longitudinal on the Audi A4. Stage2 + in my terminology is a power threshold of 270-300 forces, i.e. when we go beyond the limits of the standard flow meter in terms of the air consumed by the motor.

What needs to be done if we want to decently cross the threshold of 250 forces. It's a full blown exhaust. If up to 250 forces, by and large, only a downpipe is enough for us, and the remaining stock exhaust system will not yet noticeably choke the engine, then if the threshold of air consumed by the engine of 200 g / s is exceeded, free exhaust is already needed. Further, if you have a motor without a fuel return, as in this example, then you will need it. As soon as we consistently pass the boost pressure over a bar of excess, then the injectors will have to work at a differential pressure of less than 3 bar, on which their base performance is actually normalized. In this case, not only the performance of the injectors suffers, which is especially critical at high speeds (due to the DC injectors, when the maximum injection time is severely limited), but the atomization also suffers. Even if you put 630 forces and give a differential. pressure is less than 3 bar, the spray will suffer. That is why a fuel system with a return line and a fuel regulator on the rail is needed. In addition, you will need an oversized flow meter to measure air above the limit when stock starts to go off scale, which is just over 220 g / s. The flow meter is either from an Audi TT 225sil VAM motor or from cars with a 2.7T motor. The turbine itself, which is able to stably provide the motor with air at a pressure of 1.4 bar excess per 6000 with a margin. Everything else is also what you need up to 250 forces.

Actually, after the manufacture and assembly of the entire kit, I set up the engine control program. Programmatically turned off the diagnostics of the catalyst and the second probe, the diagnostics of the secondary air system, the diagnostics of the gas tank purge system (there is one on the Americans), and then the electric tensioner of the shaft chain would be replaced with a mechanical one, and the diagnostics and operation of the electrical one would be turned off. The machine is set to 280-290 forces. With such typical settings, a trip to the stand is not necessary and always remains at the discretion of the owner, because it is possible to determine the received power by the air consumed, the ignition angle and the dynamics of speeding up. Such projects should be limited in terms of torque due to the weakness of native connecting rods - which is why there is no boost peak when boost is reached.
