Last year the Hungarians from neocore games unexpectedly successfully debuted in the genre "everything is like in Diablo". And in The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing, in addition to the genocide of monsters of all stripes, we also saw humor, irony and a lot of side quests. Not everything, of course, was perfect there, but that's what sequels were invented to progress and move on.

The sequel was allowed to import the hero from the first part and start the game immediately at level 30.

My refuge is my fortress!

In general, the picture is familiar. The son of the famous Van Helsing fights various monsters in a world where gothic and steampunk go hand in hand, and local Vlad Dracula can ask the help of a vampire hunter to confront the mad scientist and his experiments together. Only this time the scientist has already been defeated, and Dracula has disappeared somewhere. And, as expected, a new Evil enters the scene - of course, even more cruel and insidious.

The plot directly continues the events of the first part and, first of all, offers to defend the Gothic city of Borgova from the army of monsters storming it. At first, all this seems somewhat tiring: our Van Helsing and his constant companion, Lady Katarina, who can not only fight, but also run for shopping, rush back and forth around the perimeter, give orders to the defenders of the city and suppress enemy attacks over and over again.

But then our hero, along with the survivors, retreat into the catacombs, into a secret shelter, and this is where really interesting things begin. Here, the younger Van Helsing can naturally train the militias and send them to seize administrative... in the sense of sending them on different missions. And here you need to think about who and where to send. In total there are three squads of soldiers led by their captains, and each of them has unique abilities and different characteristics. One prefers to act covertly, the other - more aggressively. One takes care of the soldiers in battle more, but the other does everything faster (and after all, a certain time is allotted for each task).

Each mission (explore a secret laboratory, deal with the city gangs of marauders, find some legendary artifact) has its own specific conditions, and we must wisely choose which captain and his squad are best suited for this job. If everything goes well - get a lot of money and the same artifact in addition, if not - you will lose some of the soldiers, and the captain will end up in the infirmary for a while. But in any case, with each mission, the commanders gain experience, and we “pump” them, improve equipment and train new fighters. All this, of course, is rather optional, but it's still interesting to mess with the militia - it allows you to take a break from constant battles. Yes, and extra money is never here, especially at high levels of difficulty.

In the shelter, our hero now collects and flaunts the trophies collected in battles.

In addition, after some time we will be able to take care of our own pet monster - the Chimera, who came to Van Helsing's lair from a parallel world. And it will be possible not only to call her to help in battle, but also periodically send her back home in search of all sorts of useful artifacts, magical essences and other joys.

Fun, scary and exciting!

Naturally, right from his shelter, the younger Van Helsing himself can go on various missions, both plot and not so. Moreover, they pass not only underground, but also in the open air - forests, fields and rivers filled with bloodthirsty and hungry creatures are again at our service!

There are a lot of quests, and, as before, they provide a lot of space for exploring locations, searching for various secrets, unusual situations and meetings. You can, for example, meet an ogre merchant and a goldfish that grants three wishes. And among the side tasks there was a place for mini-games in the spirit of Tower Defense - there we run around the map, place towers, turrets and traps, and then press the "launch the first wave of enemies" button and see what happens.

According to the story, the hero is looking for allies and new ways to deal with the next Evil. At the same time, the script includes the priests of Perun, talking stones, inventions Nikola Tesla and a certain powerful ghost named Prisoner No. 7 - he periodically appears to our hero, explains what to do next, and promises help.

In general, everything is clear, but the script again found a place for both irony and intrigue. The Talking Stones ask silly riddles, prompting Lady Katarina's sarcastic comments and a smirk on the player's face. Having gone on a story mission to some snowy village, you can meet a talking ghoul there, who himself does not yet know that he has turned into a monster, and asks him to dress and feed him. And in the underground dungeon, among the prisoners we need to rescue, there is also a huge green Ivan Stepanovich Hyde - he asks to release him and promises to turn into a normal Jekyll gentleman again. Believe him or not - you decide!

You can get stuck in the lab for a long time.

The intrigue is connected with the fact that the same mysterious Prisoner No. 7 is clearly playing his game, hiding something. At some point, you can even fight with him - or you can settle things amicably. Moreover, such dilemmas, periodically arising in the plot, in a certain way affect further events. Although the ending of this story is the same: the authors are planning a third part.

All Van Helsings are needed, all Van Helsings are important

The main change, or rather, an addition to the game mechanics, is, of course, the promised appearance of a class system. If in the first part we had a pre-installed Van Helsing, a master of blades, pistols and magic in one person, now at the start you need to choose one of three different heroes.

It could be the classic Hunter, a monster hunter who is great with melee weapons. The second option is Thaumaturg, a kind of analogue of a magician who can strike enemies with electric discharges and use their blood to enhance his magical power. Finally, the third one is Arcane Mechanic, something like an engineer: he relies on flamethrowers, grenade launchers and knows how to place turrets right in battle.

Each class, of course, has unique skill branches available, but we did not notice any imbalance in the balance towards one or another specialization. Moreover, some of the characters' abilities overlap: for example, the Hunter can also fry opponents with electric shocks.

Otherwise, everything is familiar: in addition to “pumping” and learning new active skills, there are also various defensive auras, Lady Katarina’s skills and “perks” that we learn as the reputation of the younger Van Helsing grows. Plus, of course, a sea of ​​equipment and all sorts of artifacts with which you can do whatever your heart desires: improve, enchant with the help of various magical essences, collect new items and runes. And now we are also allowed to dismantle artifacts into ingredients and turn them into even more powerful things.

You can't survive in the winter forest without fire.

The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing 2 All in all, a perfect sequel. The game has become more beautiful, more varied and more comfortable. But at the same time, it remained the same rather tough and hardcore action role-playing game, a real gift for all connoisseurs of "devilish" entertainment. Even on the third of the five difficulty levels, she throws a serious challenge. And when your Van Helsing is once again torn to rags by an unimaginable crowd of monsters, there are two options left - give it all up and do less nervous entertainment, or still start using all the possibilities for point customization and “pumping” the character. Fortunately, there are more of them in the second part.

Pros: the opportunity to train and lead the militia; there is still a lot of irony, jokes and funny situations; locations are interesting to explore; There is a complete class system.
Minuses: the engine is imperfectly optimized; control in combat does not always seem convenient.

So. The game starts after the crash. In the location, you need to reach the point. Enemies will not be very strong. Somewhere among the bandits there is a champion from whom a good reward falls. On the way you will meet Domovoy, in his bag he has a very good reward. You need to overtake him, and then beat him for a very long time, since high resistances (about 20-25 hits)
From him they will give the achievement What "s in the bag? (although not always, since less than 20 things can fall out) they gave me Domovoi Swords from him. Also, if he still jumps down, then in the future you will find him. He will already be dead and the reward in any case will be yours.
Reaching the end of the location will automatically give the achievement Manservant, after a very funny dialogue.

The first city on your way.
It has a lot of fun and interesting things. For example: a talking two-headed cow.
Find a chicken and use the Shift key to kill it, it will drop an egg (give +10Hp) and an achievement: Chicken Runner
At the top there is a statue, which will require inserting 3 stones (Gem Stones), they are scattered throughout the locations. If I'm not mistaken, then 1 in the forest (in the gypsy camp in a box, thanks) and 1 in the swamp and the last one in the well (you will get there on assignment). After finding them, you MUST bring them to the statue, because they will give you a key that will give you very good loot in the future. In the corner of the town there is a shack in which the inhabitants tell where they hid the good. Same way. Near the tavern lies a drunken sir, who will tell the story of how a goat ate a diamond (if you don’t chat with him, then you won’t get this diamond).
After one of the quests at the blacksmith, he will offer you to forge a sword, agree, he will break it, but you still take it. It can be given to a person in the church who believes that they constantly point the mouse at him and he will give the essence. Or keep it as a Bunnislayer, a funny little thing, but it will come in handy. I thought it was pretty clear that the sword is an easter egg and a necessary item and not some kind of epic sword. This item will come in handy for the rabbit achievement, so keep it in your inventory.
By the way, if you kill all the chickens, they will give an achievement: Chicken Slayer
We take quests and go to Croakwood.

The location is full of werewolves and harpies.
A little higher from us, the NPC gives a questset, it's best not to take it yet, but to clear the location. To make his escort much easier. After clearing the location, take him to the camp, they will give the achievement: Escort Master (!Important. It will be given ONLY if the NPC does not receive damage)
Based on the conversation, find a tree, it contains about 2000 gold. In the location you will meet a ghost, he can be escorted to:

  • Hangouts. Then it will just be a massacre and nothing special.
  • Altar. Then there will be, in theory, a happy ending for him, and you will be given a good reward + a very funny dialogue between Van and Katarina.
There is a Wisp in the forest who will ask a question. The answer to it: I don't know your name, Katarina knows (I dont know your name. Katarina knows). And she will say. Then you don't have to kill him and he will give you a reward.
Also, find the Legendary Goblin, a gold coin will fall out of it, it will have to be thrown into the well, and harpies will fly out of the well. From them you will be given Weapon Oil, it must be applied to the sword in the stone. Then you will get Excalibur - an epic weapon whose stats will open as you kill (800 in total, if I'm not mistaken). I wore this sword up to level 23-24. The achievement will also unlock: Sword in the Stone
In the camp, you will be asked to bring a werewolf skull, which is a very simple task.
Next, you need to go to the lair of the Werewolf. He must be defeated twice.
For the first time, just out in the open.
The second time, after the destruction of the totems.
It's best not to kill the werewolf. Since you will receive help from the werewolves + You will be given the seal of the Werewolves in the future, which will give good increases to the stats.

Location available after you take the quest from the scientist.
Quite simply, get a sample. But the main thing is that this location contains one of the three Gem Stones. So search and be sure to find. You will never get into this lacquer again, so it is worth finding. For the passage they will give an inca essence, which you can give away, or you can keep it for yourself and get a very unnecessary thing.

Swamp.
Very spacious location.
Let's start with the fact that bones sometimes fall out from the enemy (4 in total). They can be given away:

  • To the scientist. Then he will give 1500 gold.
  • Throw the Vodyanyh idol. Then they will give 2 stat points and 200Xp.
The location has totems that give short-term bonuses. Find everything and then you will need to fight the Spirit of the Forest. From which good loot falls. And they give an achievement: Trophy: Frenzied Forest Spirit.
In the location you will meet Wisp, who will beckon you to him, at the end there will still be a trap, with a small number of these fireflies. Sending everyone back to the god of crickets and stuff. You will be given a reward and achievement: Trophy: Ignis Fatuus
There is also an altar and 4 frogs. They need to be directed towards the altar. 2 Watermen will spawn. For killing each will give an achievement: Trophy: Tweedledum and Trophy: Tweedledee

One of the quests will require you to bring bombs. Look for the crashed airship. There will also be a big red button, which Katarina will beg you to press. After activation, soldiers will appear. Next we collect the bombs, if you collect the bombs without activating any bombs, you will receive the achievement: Explosives Expert. They can be examined by bringing the screen closer, the red wicks are inactive, the green ones will explode. This method was found, for which many thanks to him.
Further along the road there is a retreat down, where werewolves and a bunch of soldiers are sitting in cages. Werewolves can be released immediately and they will help you, if you have not killed their leader, then you will not need to kill them and they will give a reward for pardoning their leader. The purpose of this massacre is to take an electrode or something like that from the generator.
At the end of the location, 4 bosses will await.
They will lock you up. It is best to kill with the Alchemist, as he heals. The next step is to deal with the werewolves. One of them will regenerate itself and at the end fill up the carcass with a grenade launcher.
Of course, for your valor they will give an achievement: Trophy: Judge Obesovsky
Look for the corpse of a goat, if you had a monologue with a drunkard, then there will be a very good essence in the corpse.

Boss location.
A huge iron worm that needs to be sent back for repairs.
There are two ways to cut it:

Worth walking along the coast. On the shore (If you didn’t kill the Brownie at the very beginning) the corpse of this small one is lying around. From it you can pick up the loot that would have belonged to you at the very beginning of the game.
There are no special Easter eggs in the location. And the place itself is quite small.

Of course, the Hungarians tried to add a bit of intrigue by adding to the game a mysterious demonic assistant who calls himself "Prisoner No. 7", hints at terrible secrets and curses of the ancient gods, but it looks very far-fetched. And it’s a frankly open ending, which only screams out loud: “Buy a triquel, we’ll do it in a year!” in principle, it will cause genuine annoyance in many.

However, as before, excellent postmodern humor and gloomy gothic steampunk mixed with Eastern European flavor redeem the plot absurdity. And, of course, the good old Lady Katherine, who, as before, wittily and sarcastically comments on everything that happens around and enters into an active skirmish with everyone about and without him.

Three times three

We must pay tribute to the developers for the fact that they were not seduced by the opportunity to earn extra money and added all the DLC characters from the original to the second part. Now the player is given a choice of three classes with as many as three long branches of skills - the master of elements Thaumaturge (local magician), the engineer Arcane Mechanic and the classic Hunter, who can cut both in close combat and develop as a specialist in firearms.

You have to choose skills wisely - obviously there is not enough for everything.

At the same time, the maximum level was doubled, up to 60, and the game was allowed to start immediately with a hero pumped to level 30 or import an old save. It seems that in the third part everything will be exactly the same.

Despite the fact that many of the skills of the three classes generally repeat each other, playing Van Helsing II became somehow more cheerful. The familiar system with perks, auras, and “rage” spent on special amplifications for tricks, thanks to an extensive bestiary and balance brought to an acceptable state, sparkled with new colors - the world-old scheme “well, a couple more levels, and sleep” works in Van Helsing II one hundred percent.

Add some fun

Some unique innovations in the second part The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing the Hungarians did not bring. Pretty predictable considering the game was in the making for just under a year.

Tower defense levels have become more varied and interesting, but this attraction still cannot be called truly outstanding and worthy of the pillars of the genre. On the other hand, a lot of experience falls out of this, which in the conditions of very strong, as usual in the series, monsters is a notable plus.

Does not cause much excitement and the management of the militia. In words, everything is very cool - you have an army of rebels and a number of generals, each of which has different skills - someone is good at ambush, someone is a born diplomat, and someone knows how to take corny numbers and skill. According to the game logic, you need to choose the right general for side tasks in order to get the maximum benefit. In fact, it turns out to be boring - as a reward, the hero receives not very necessary artifacts and even less necessary gold, which even with a rather stupid behavior on the part of the player will be enough.



Van Helsing II's cosplay of Diablo III: Reaper of Souls is sometimes amazing.

The chimera that appears in the second third of the game, which serves as Van Helsing's pet, is also more fun than practical. In battle, she dies very quickly, and she can only be summoned for a short time at very long intervals. On the hunt, the animal is more useful - by sending the monster to its home world, upon its return, you can get a non-acidic amount of rare items and gold, depending on the area where it goes. True, the chimera periodically asks for food - it feeds exclusively on essences that serve to enchant things.

Cut, stick

As for the rest Van Helsing II more or less successfully mows it for the second part, and not for a huge addon - ten times more clothes, variability in quests, more colorful and varied landscapes, more bosses and random events. For those who miss the simple chopping of monsters for goulash - the best offer on the market at the moment (although Diablo III: Reaper of Souls We respect and love too.

The only pity is that in a year the picture was almost not pulled up, and even with thoughtful and insinuating cutting out of each monster, the game will hardly last more than 12-14 hours in terms of timing. However, the second time, unlike the extremely linear and monotonous original, it is still possible to pass it.

Prologue

Find the equipment right after the cutscene, go through the gate and follow the only possible way. Defeat the first enemies. Use the elevator below to get to the top tier. The quest is available during The seat quest. If you chose the first option in a conversation with the commander, then go to the four question marks on the map to give instructions to the captains. Having chosen, go back to Petrov to start defending. Repel the attack of enemies who are trying to knock you out. Help soldiers in other areas. After you complete this quest, the prisoner September will come to you and entrust the first task to "Problems frontline".

Second wave

The quest is available after the previous one from Commander Petrov. Talk to each captain, return to Petrov to start fighting off the second wave. After you win, the prisoner will give the quest "Vlados in difficulty".

Vlados in difficulty

After completing the Second Wave quest, the Prisoner of September will entrust you with a new task. Head southwest, take the elevator and go down to help the soldiers. Talk to the captain to confirm completion of the quest and receive two additional quests: "Cargo weapons" and "Evacuation of the wounded".

Annihilator octopode

Destroy an enemy while attacking the headquarters.

After the Seat mission, you will find yourself in a secret lair. Talk to the captain of the guards, who will tell you about some kind of flying machine. It was sent by your ally Nikola Tesla, locked in a cage. Go to the sewers and select the destination "Tunnels drainage".

So, in the secret lair, talk to Commander Petrov, who will tell you about the three captains. Discuss with each of them their special abilities. The quest will end as soon as you choose who to send on the quest.

The ground incursion

After the previous quest, talk to Petrov to get a new one. He will inform you that an attack on the outpost is imminent. You can take assistants, or you can say that you can handle it yourself. If you decide on your own, then take the teleport and select "Underground Incursion (Input)". Place obstacles, fight off 4 waves and return to Petrov.

Once in the Giant Forest, examine the body above and get a Moonstone. Go south a little lower, inspect the corpses and get the second Moonstone. Go West to find a haunted village. Talk to the person with the exclamation mark over it, get the Curse side quest. Go to the East to meet with the followers of Perun. Agree to help. There will be a side quest "Door Perun".
